The drama continues, as APC North Central adopt Saraki for Senate President

by Kolapo Olapoju

Hours after the All Progressives Congress stated that it had not zoned the Senate Presidency to the North Central, Chairmen of the party in the zone have gone ahead to adopt Senator Bukola Saraki as their sole candidate for the position.

The development was announced by the party chairmen in a communiqué issued at the end of a meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, May 26.

The Chairman said their decision to adopt Saraki was a ripple effect of the withdrawal of the other contender for the position from the zone, Senator George Akume, from the race.

The zonal chairmen claimed that the party’s National Working Committee had zoned the office of the Senate President to it, adding that they were only interested in the post.

Signatories to the communiqué are Letep M. Dabang (Plateau State); Alhaji Haddy A. Ametuo (Kogi State), Philips Shekwo (Nasarawa State), Alhaji Usman Malik, (Federal Capital Territory), Jibrin Mohammed (Niger State) and Ishola  Fulani (Kwara State).

The communiqué read in part;

“That we are resolute in our collective decision to produce a single candidate from the zone to the office of the Senate Presidency and we abide with same, considering the fact that all our distinguished senators from the zone had equally maintained similar position in their earlier meetings.”
