Senate President, Bukola Saraki gets a much needed victory

Senate President, Bukola Saraki, clearly needs a positive news, after the horrid week he’s had.

UK authorities have come out to clarify the brouhaha surrounding his British passport.

It was alleged that Saraki, has dual citizenship and holds a British passport numbered- 306077175.

However, Premium Times reports that Andrew Stephenson of Discreet Law, Her Majesty Passport Office, in London, confirmed that the published passport was forged.

Saraki had earlier admitted to being a British citizen, because he was born there but however, denied ownership of the published passport.

To buttress the confirmation of Her Majesty Passport Office, a statement was released by Saraki’s special assistant on new media, Bamikole Omishore.

“It is important to state that the requirement to forfeit Nigerian nationality/citizenship upon acquisition of the nationality/citizenship of another country does not apply to persons who are Nigerians by birth within the definition of Section 25 of the Constitution. This section also acknowledges and protects the right to hold citizenship by birth of another country.

“Citizens of a country by birth do not need to swear to an oath of allegiance to that country. It is only a citizenship acquired through naturalisation and registration that has the requirement to take an oath of allegiance.”
