‘Government is not giving money to us’ – CAN

Rev Musa Asake, the General Secretary of the Christians Association of Nigeria (CAN), has refuted claims that former president Goodluck Jonathan’s failure to secure re-election has shut out the Christian body from the scheme of things in the nation.

Asake said this on Wednesday, November 11, in an interview with journalists after the inauguration of the national executives of the Youth wing of CAN (YOWICAN)

He expressed his disappointment at the reasoning that CAN has been left in the cold, stressing that as a Christian body, it has no political affiliations and therefore cannot be affected by the outcome of an election.

He explained that the Christian body has been very active in matters concerning Christians and the masses in general, while also throwing his weight behind the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

“It is so disappointing to hear people thinking along that way, what has CAN got to do with Jonathan? Is CAN under government? Is government giving money to CAN? No! We are Nigerians, Jonathan lost election we have another leader.

“When something happened in the country, we speak. On the recent ban of morning devotion in primary and secondary schools, we reacted, you people (media) carry our press release. We are not keeping quiet,” he said.

Asake also implored President Buhari to incorporate youths into his administration instead of recycling old politicians for effectiveness.
