Former Education Minister and Convener of the #BringBackOurGirls group, Oby Ezekwesili has urged the President Muhammadu Buhari administration to do more in rescuing the remaining 218 girls kidnapped in 2014 by members of the Boko Haram terrorist group.

Ezekwesili who expressed her joy at the news of the Chibok girl, Amina Ali, who was rescued today by members of the civilian JTF in Borno today, said President Buhari needs to bring security experts together to analyse information gleaned from the rescued girl so as to locate the whereabouts of others with a view to rescuing them.

Speaking to YNaija, she said it is a feeling of joy “that one out of 219 girls has come back. We’re beyond joyed, we’re overjoyed about that. That joy mixes with a lot of anticipation, and therefore anxiety about the state of the rest of them. But then when we remember that, we actually just needed to even get a signal of life, that proof of life. It’s actually one of our Chibok girls, real, identified, spoken to by her own mother.”

The former World Bank Vice President for Africa advised President Buhari to collaborate with Nigeria’s international partners with a view to rescuing the girls currently being held against their will by Boko Haram terrorists.

“I think the government need to just get all of its international partners, all of the other countries, with all the capabilities they have into the strategic situation room where they can analyse the kind of information that this young woman is able to provide, and then make a decision as to how to effect the rescue of the rest of the girls. We can’t wait one day extra, that is needless. Any needless time of waiting should be avoided. We can’t wait one more day in getting to a place of strategic decision as to what to do next by those who have the right information,” Ezekwesili stated.

Amina Ali was abducted along with over 200 of her schoolmates at the Government Girls’ Secondary School, Chibok, Borno in in April 2014.
