The just-concluded Holy Ghost Congress of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) witnessed a mammoth gathering of worshippers, majority of whom were young.

For anyone who attended the Friday evening event at the ongoing Holy Ghost Congress of the RCCG, you must have noticed all the men and women who either led prayers, announced the next program on the schedule, preached the word or led one item or the other. One thing was very dominant; they all had grey hairs or at its most, looked relatively advanced in age. It would not be so worrying except that we now remember that some months ago, Pastor E.A. Adeboye officially handed over operations of Redeemed Christina Church of God in Nigeria to Pastor Obayemi who is quite advanced in age.

A big throwback to that time when Rev. Josiah Akindayomi who by the way, is the original founder of RCCG (I bet, many of you didn’t know that) handed over leadership of the RCCG to Pastor Adeboye who was about 36 years of age (quite young). We expected to, by this time, see more activities from the youth. Not like they were totally absent, but they either came up as a group for a presentation or their presence was scarcely sprinkled on the schedule making it quite difficult to even notice them. As time evolves, we need to be conscious of how we effectively carry our young ones along in our programs; not only when it Youth Week or Youth Month but even in the grand scheme of things.

We hope that this would be looked into and the church would begin to focus on the growing generation of youths in whose hands lie the continuity of this God-given vision.

Then there was the song ministration by Pastor Seeds Family titled “We are victorious”. Not like we were expecting something out of the blues, but a bland mixture of several words together in what was supposed to be a song and then mixing it badly with Darlene Zschech Victor’s Crown is somehow.

We recognise the huge sacrifice that the RCCG continually puts in to make the Holy Ghost Congress a success, but we can correct one another in love, right?
