TEDxIfe, a locally organized TEDx event in Ife has scheduled its 2014 event for 15th November, with its theme tagged “Solving X”.

As this will be the fifth event since the series began in 2012, our attention is shifted to the questions and complexities that confront many young Nigerians.

According to the organizers of the event, the speakers will gather to share ideas that emphasize the processes of solving Nigeria’s x.

“We think of these complexities as an x, seeing how they often look overwhelming and unsolvable. We acknowledge the fact that to tackle these problems is a process, and so we’re interested in sharing ideas that emphasize the processes of solving Nigeria’s x.

“In this year’s conference, we will be exploring the defiant, provocative, and alternative models being used by our speakers to challenge reality and make a difference. We have carefully selected speakers who have not only undertaken the task of conquering their complexities – complexities ranging from health issues through infrastructural hindrances to political frustrations – but have also left indelible marks while championing their cause.”

Confirmed speakers for the event include Chude Jideonwo (Managing Partner RedMedia Africa), Marek Zmyslowski (Managing Director, Jovago.com), Maneesh Garg (Group CEO, Nagode Group), Tunji Lardner (TED Fellow and Executive Director/Founder, WANGONeT), Audu Maikori (Foremost Entertainment Industry CEO), Cynthia Mosunmola Umoru (Agro Entrepreneur and Founder of Farmshoppe), Detoun Ogwo (MD, Afterschool Graduate Development Centre), Yemi Adamolekun (Executive Director, Enough is Enough Nigeria), Prof. Adesegun Fatusi (Provost, College of Health Sciences, OAU) and for the first time also, we are going to have two student speakers on stage who would be showcasing innovation from within the student community to an audience of a thousand persons.

The TEDxIfe initiative is curated by writer Emmanuel Iduma – under the license from TED – with a team of mainly Obafemi Awolowo University Students and ex-students led by co-organisers Emmanuel Adegboye and Nonso Eze as volunteers.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.

Our event is set to hold in the next few weeks and there’s a lot we need to let you know. Our speakers are willing to engage in pre-event conversations that will spark a healthy idea boost plus registration is ongoing for the main event and we want to show you how to go about it.

Even more, we have ‘1000 voices’, an avenue for you to add your voice to the montage of ideas and speaking minds that will be unveiled at the main event. Please visit http://www.tedxife.com for details on this and on how to register to attend.

I do a lot more talking at http://blog.tedxife.com/. Follow me there so we can interact about TEDxIfe. I’ve got a lot to tell you.
