How DSS’ lack of promptness stalled Dasuki’s trial, again

The trial of former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki was yet again stalled- as his delay in showing up in court forced Justice Peter Affen of FCT High Court to postpone till a further date.

Operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS) were reported to have failed to produce Dasuki in court when scheduled to appear.

He was however, brought into the court two hours after the court started hearing the matter and after Justice Affen had adjourned the case till February 26, 2016.

Before the adjournment, Dasuki’s lawyer, Joseph Daudu lamented the fact that Dasuki was being held at unknown destinations where his lawyers could not have access to him.

Dasuki was re-arrested by operatives of the DSS on December 29, 2015 shortly after he was released from prison upon fulfilling the bail conditions granted him by Justice Affen and two other judges which amounted to disobedience of the orders granting bail to their client.

Since then, his trial has failed to lift up.

Justice Baba Yusuf of the same court, had on January 21, refused to commence proceedings on Dasuki’s trial.

The judge insisted on the presence of Sambo Dasuki in court, before he ruled on the case.

Dasuki’s lawyers, Joseph Daudu and Ahmed Raji, were also absent in court, but it was reported that they had written to the court asking for an adjournment of the case because of another legal engagement in Kogi State.

Others who are being prosecuted along with the former NSA with respect to charges of diversion of arm funds include a former Director of Finance in the Office of the NSA, Shuaibu Salisu, a former Finance Minister of State, Bashir Yuguda; a former Sokoto Governor, Attahiru Bafarawa, the ex-governor’s son, Sagir Attahiru, and a firm, Dalhatu Investment.
