Death toll of Nigerians in Hajj stampede jumps to 54

The total number of Nigerian lives lost in the tragic Hajj stampede at Mina, Saudi Arabia, has risen to 54.

According to the Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, Barrister Abdullahi Muktar Muhammed, 42 out of the 54 that died were from states’ pilgrims welfare board.

The remaining deceased pilgrims were said to be those brought to Saudi Arabia by tour operators.

Two officials of the Hajj Commission also lost their lives in the stampede.

The deceased Nigerians are from Nasarawa, Niger, Ogun, Ondo, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe, Borno, Zamfara, Cross River, Jigawa, Kano, Kogi and Kebbi states.
