Keston Okoro, a member of the Delta State House of Assembly (DTHA) was yesterday sent out of the floor of the Assembly for improper dressing.
He was sent out by the Speaker of the House, Peter Onwunsanya following an observation of improper dressing raised by Daniel Mayuku, the lawmaker representing Warri South West Constituency.
Onwunsanya told Okoro not to return to the floor of the House until he learns to dress in a way that is befitting of his status as a lawmaker.
Mayuku said, “My dear Speaker and members of this House, as honourable members, we are here to work according to the rules and regulations of this House. Therefore, let me draw your attention to the sitting position of the member representing Udu constituency and to say his mode of dressing is a total disrespect to this honourable House. Our mode of dressing should depict us as responsible members of the House, representing the people in our respective constituencies.”
In his remarks, Johnson Erijo, chairman, House Committee on Information, said the action of the House was in line with Rule 57 (11) of the House, which stipulates “that when a member is not properly dressed, he should be sent out until he does the needful. A member should come to sitting properly dressed and what Mayuku observed and highlighted was in the right direction.”
