DHQ reveals how Air Force helicopter crashed in Yola

Defence Headquarters has confirmed the crash-landing of a Nigerian Air Force helicopter at the Yola International Airport earlier today.

The Director of Military Information, Maj. Gen. Chris Olukolade, said the helicopter which was on a training mission, executed a controlled forced landing just four minutes after take off.

“A Nigerian Air Force Helicopter with call sign Shark 23 on a training mission executed a controlled forced landing 4 minutes after take-off at the runway approach end of Yola International Airport today at about 0930hours,” he said.

Olukolade assured that an investigation panel has been set up to unravel the circumstances leading to the incident.

He said, “There is no casualty recorded as all the crew members have been recovered back to the base.  The Nigerian Air Force Headquarters has already set up an investigation panel to unravel the circumstances that led to the incident,” Olukolade said.

Eyewitnesses close to the scene of the crash indicated that soldiers were immediately drafted to the location to cordon off the scene.
