A Rivers State police officer on Tuesday took his own life in Port Harcourt.
Mr Ben Ugwuegbulam, spokesman for the Rivers state police command, confirmed this development. According to him, the officer had shot and wounded an Inspector, before shooting himself in the chest and ending his life.
He explained that the officer was rushed to Teme Hospital, Port Harcourt, together with the Inspector he shot, but the former died, having fought the hospital personnel while refusing treatment.
Ugwuegbulam said the Inspector was responding to treatment, while the AK-47 rifle used by the Corporal has been recovered.
He said that the State Criminal Investigating Department was investigating the incident, adding that he was unaware of any previous discord between the officers.
