An unhappy man,  40-year-old Amando Onoja, has pleaded with the Agege customary court to grant him a divorce from his wife Helen Onoja.

Mr. Onoja, who is an officer with the  National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), explained to the court, the disrespectful, destructive and stubborn ways of his wife, how she picks up fights with him and the neighbor.

According to him, due to her bad character, he was given a quit notice by the landlord. He also said he returned her to the village in Kogi state, telling his family members that he no longer needed a wife, she was asked to go back to Lagos and get her luggage, but has refused to move back to the village but rather looks for ways to make his life miserable.

According to reports:

Onoja said that in June, he had to have her arrested and detained at Ogba police station. He said on that night at about 9:30pm, she picked up a shovel and told him that both of them must die.

“Later on she dropped the shovel and picked up a cutlass and I have to run to the landlord’s apartment. Due to the fact that I could not get to the police station that night, I have to sleep outside,” the NDLEA officer narrated.

On the verge of tears, Onoja presented to the court pictures of some of his personal possessions that his wife had destroyed.

He said that she burnt all the documents and receipts of their jointly owned business telling him that he did seek her approval before putting her name on the document of the business.

Onoja stated further that he has moved out of the house for the past four and half months and has been living with friends in order to save his life. He said that his wife is a teacher but when the whim takes her, she can do and undo. He wants the court to dissolve the union and eject her from the house.

The respondent was not in court during the hearing. The court president put the call across to her when she discovered that it was the court president, she cut the call on him. The court bailiff reported that when he served her summons, she was always rude and nonchalant in her approach.

The court president asked Onoja to provide accommodation for her so that she can have a place to go to when she is ejected from the house. The court adjoined the case till Thursday 29th August 2013.
