Embattled health secretary Price boasts of Trump’s support

Embattled Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price on Thursday bragged about his sustained support of President Trump amid an uproar over his use of charter aircraft for personal issues.

Speaking to reporters while taking his leave from an event to promote flu vaccine at the National Press Club, Price said: “We’re going to work through this, and I think we’ve still got the confidence of the president”. He left the event after taking his own shot of the flu vaccine without taking further questions from the reporters who chased him down as he was whisked away through the back door.

As reported on Wednesday, the former Georgia congressman came under fierce criticism for using charter aircraft at taxpayers expense for official travel that overlapped with personal events, including a lunch with his son.

Also, Price’s flights are now the subject of an investigation by the office of the HHS inspector general.

Price’s job could however be at risk, as President Trump on Wednesday said he was “not happy” with the situation and refused to play down his possible firing.

Trump said: “I am not happy about it. I’m going to look at it. I am not happy about it and I let him know it”.

When asked whether he planned to fire Price, the president said, “We’ll see.”

In lieu of the ugly development, Price who argued that the accusations are politically motivated by critics of the Trump administration, said this week he will stop using charter flights.
