Faaji Sundays, London’s trendiest West African ‘Bottomless Drunch’ event will hold its fourth fest on 27th August, 2017.
The lifestyle brand was founded by Yinka Odukoya and Frances Para-Mallam to positively promote West African culture through the philosophy of FAAJI – which means ‘enjoyment’ in Yoruba. At every event which takes place at a secret location monthly, the team serves up delicious West African dishes from Plantain blini served with a mango and avocado salad & zesty chilli king prawns to jollof rice & fried rice served with faaji chicken wings & peppered hake fish. There is also Malva pudding served with berry and zobo coulis.
“We aim to provide a unique cultural experience and ”Bottomless Drunch” (alternative to brunch, late evening boozy dinner, popular in France) – including a live band, old and new African music and great vibes. “Although we would like to say the idea was rooted in a revelatory experience while on a visit to the motherland, the true inspiration stemmed from a discussion between my business partner Frances and I. We were discussing my pan-African food business and love of food festival events. Frances and I then began to envisage how much we would want to put together a foodie event that resembled all the things I loved – and that is when we came up with the concept for Faaji Sundays,” says Yinka Odukoya.
Speaking to The Voice Newspaper, Frances Para-Mallam said, “With both of us growing up in a Nigerian household with parents who speak the language and share fashion, food and history knowledge, we were bound to be influenced by their environments. Yinka has always been extremely connected to her culture, with previously running her food business for five years and going back to Nigeria to live there for a year. I have also fallen more in love with the culture through my curiosity for the arts, fashion and travel.”
The Faaji Group is committed to showcasing the best of Africa – the culture, the people, the food, and the arts.
