Fayose emerges PDP Ekiti gubernatorial candidate
Former governor of Ekiti state, Ayo Fayose has been declared winner of the PDP governorship primaries in the state which held on Saturday.
According to reports, the ex-governor emerged a victor in the primaries with 462 votes out of a total of 477 votes cast. Read more….
Public secondary schools in Borno closed indefinitely
Public secondary schools in north-east Borno state have been shut down indefinitely following deadly attacks by dreaded islamic sect, Boko Haram.
This came as a joint agreement between parents and teachers of the affected schools.
The closure reportedly affects 85 secondary schools which has about 120,000 students in attendance across the troubled state, giving in to the militant sect which has waged a 5-year insurgency in Nigeria. Read more….
Jonathan meets Pope, seeks inter-faith dialogue in Nigeria
President Goodluck Jonathan has met with Pope Francis at the Vatican on the promotion of dialogue in Nigeria and other parts of the globe, to ensure peace and stability.
Speaking with journalists after his private meeting with Pope Francis on Saturday, President Jonathan noted that the promotion of inter-faith dialogue was a cause to which the Pontiff was very committed. Read more….
Teachers boycott Gov. Oshiomhole’s competency test
Reports say the controversial competency test ordered by Adams Oshiomhole’s government for public school teachers had less than two hundred school teachers in Edo state participating in the exercise.
Most teachers did not show up for the test.
Seventy-three teachers were accredited in Edo south, while about 14 and 12 were accredited in Edo central and north respectively in the test scheduled to hold simultaneously in the three senatorial districts. Read more….
Police free pregnant girls in ‘baby factory’ raid
The police on Saturday they had raided a home near Lagos where eight pregnant girls were staying with plans to sell each of their newborns for nearly two thousand dollars.
“Following intelligence report, we discovered and stormed on Friday a baby factory in Akute district of Ogun state,” a police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, told newsmen.
In the home they found the suspected operator and eight pregnant girls, most of them under the age of 20, he said. Read more…..
