FG announces resumption of the Azura Power Plant project in Edo

The Federal Government has resumed the Azura Power Plant project which was initiated during the administration of Adams Oshiomhole, and Governor Godwin Obaseki, as the Chairman of the State’s Economic Team.

The Azura power project includes the construction, operation and maintenance of a 459 megawatts gas-fired open-cycle power plant near Benin City.

The project was first conceived under the Goodluck Jonathan administration, and after been endorsed by the new Muhammadu Buhari government, work started in 2014, but was stalled due to disagreements between the funders and the Nigerian government.

The Federal Government has now confirmed the continuation of the project after all the issues have been resolved.

The project has also reportedly created over 1,000 jobs and has an investment of over $1 billion.
