Inspector Abdullahi Shehu Itas, the aide-de-camp to the former deputy governor of Bauchi State in the Adamu Mu’azu administration was shot dead in the Zango area of the state on Friday.
According to the Vanguard Newspapers, the former ADC was shot by unidentified gunmen in-front of his house after observing his Tarawih prayer in the mosque.
ASP Hassan Mohammed, the Bauchi State Police public relations officer, has confirmed the incident.
Abdullahi’s killers were said to have arrived on a motorcycle, made an effort to identify their target before shooting him at close range.
Mohammed said: “The late Inspector Abdullahi was discussing with four people in front of his house when two people came on motorcycle and approached them. One of them greeted them and asked them who was Alhaji Abdullahi and he answered in the affirmative, the assailant brought out a gun and shot him dead instantly.”
According to the Police spokesman, no other person was injured in the attack.
Abdullahi’s corpse has been deposited at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi.
The spate of motorcycle assassination has increased throughout the country and something needs to be done by the authorities to put it in check and prevent further occurrences.
