Former CNN reporter Christian Purefoy detained by Security in Ojota… Now released

Early this morning YNaija first broke the news that Christian Purefoy, former CNN Lagos correspondent and now founder of online video startup Battabox, was picked up by government security operatives at Ojota. From his Twitter timeline, we gather that he first began to encounter Military road blocks at Orile Iganmu, and passed through four such checkpoints without incident.

He was however picked up at Ojota where he noted that the only time he’d seen such a strong military presence were during the 2011 elections.

He did not describe the circumstances under which he was arrested and detained, but he has since been released and is right back on back on the street covering the protests

Thanks all – detained & now released but remember I’m not with CNN anymore – it was a BattaBox.com detention! (only 6days after our launch!)

This incident doesn’t seem to be isolated however, reports also confirm that SSS personnel broke into CNN’s Lagos office’s, suggesting severe media censorship against the backdrop of mass protests going on all over the country against the removal of the subsidies on fuel.
