The 69th Golden Globe Awards… And the winners are…

by Wilfred Okiche

The Golden Globe award, presented by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association was broadcast last night from the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills. Hollywood A-listers from television and film turned up in their numbers to celebrate with the winners and stars such as Madonna, Angelina Jolie, Sofia Vergara and Reese Witherspoon gracefully walked the red carpet.

The silent film, ‘The Artist’ emerged big winner, picking up globes for best score, best picture, musical and best actor, musical/comedy for Jean Dujardin. George Clooney’s ‘The Descendants’ followed closely with two wins in the dramatic category including one for Clooney himself.

Other winners were Meryl Streep (The Iron Lady), Michelle Williams (My week with Marilyn) and Octavia Spencer (The Help)

In the television categories ‘Homeland’ came out tops with two wins for best series and best actress (Claire Danes), both in the drama categories while ‘Modern family’ won best comedy series.

The show was hosted for the third time by British comedian Ricky Gervais who delivered a somewhat toned down performance after last year’s controversial outing where he took offensive barbs at the celebrities present.
