The Media Blog: Former Gawker staff appear not to know that something has happened to them sha

You know we love Gawker here. So we keep keeping tabs, even though it’s not a Nigerian company.

It’s only been a month since power changed hands at Gawker, and already the combative young men and women are at war with their new bosses at Spanish media company, Univision.

You’ve got to love the Gawker guys. Nick Denton spoilt them. Fans of Gawker will remember its principle of ‘extreme transparency’ – where employees could openly question, disagree with and even yell ‘F’ words at the chief executive, and it was all in a day’s job.

Well, that didn’t last for long. Gawker came crumbling down under the weight of Hulk Hogan.

Univision came to the rescue at a time no other media publishing company was willing to buy the company when it was waist-deep in a bankruptcy crisis over the famous billionaire, Peter Thiel.

And so Univision sharply removed all 6 contentious posts that have led to heavy litigation.

And the Gawker employees are crying foul. Apparently, removing stories makes their new home a hostile environment. That is a home their legs have not even balanced in o.

Univision bought something, and decided to tinker with its new toy in a way that fits it ethos.

The products it bought no longer belong to a Gawker company. They belong to a new – company with a different ethos. And stories that don’t fit the ethos clearly need to find another home.

The protesting employees will need to make difficult choices sooner or later: keep their jobs in line with the new policies or take a cue from former Gawker executive editor, Tommy Craggs who quit his job under similar circumstances in 2015.

“This story is no longer available as it is the subject of pending litigation against the prior owners of this site.”

The above is what reads when you click the links of the deleted posts.

It’s sad that Gawker is dead. But Gawker IS dead. The world does change. The petulant kids need to get with the programme.

PS: Someone is doing a parody of Gawker at Gawken.com. You should check it out.
