The Federal Road Safety Corps on Wednesday has said it would soon introduce a flying ticket initiative, which is aimed at integrating motorists, commuters and members of the public into making the roads safe through reportage of road indiscipline.

This was disclosed at the 27th anniversary celebration of FRSC in Abuja. The corps said it would act upon such information to locate road traffic law breakers and punish them accordingly.

The Corps Marshall, Boboye Oyeyemi, who said this, stated that amongst the 1,000 youths lost to road traffic crashes daily on the global roads are future mothers, fathers, physicians, workers, teachers etc. FRSC has big dreams of becoming a world class organization with sufficient capacity to contribute to the realisation of the targets of the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety, 2011-2020 as well as Accra Declaration of 2007 with targets of fatality reduction to 50 per cent by the year 2015 explaining that frameworks adopted by the Corps to achieve these goals are anchored on people, processes and technology, which he said has recently been altered in the collective efforts to build a more functional FRSC that can deliver safety for all road users.

“In the coming weeks, we shall be unveiling to the public the flying ticket initiative, which is aimed at integrating members of the public into making our roads safe, with their reportage of road indiscipline, which the FRSC would act upon using such information to locate these road traffic perpetrators and punish them accordingly,” Oyeyemi said.

He said the attainment of the prestigious Quality Management System Certification (ISO 9001) by the corps, is a clear evidence of what the FRSC had become in terms of quality service delivery stating that the corps in furtherance of its commitment to global best practice in road safety management and administration, has commenced the process of acquiring ISO 39001 Certification on Road Safety Management thereby making the FRSC the first Law Enforcement Agency in the world to be so certified.
