Get well soon | Trump reacts to McCain’s brain cancer report

US President Donald Trump has reacted to the news that one-time presidential candidate, Senator John McCain was diagnosed with brain cancer.

In a statement released by the White House, Trump described McCain as a “fighter” and urging him to “get well soon.”

Trump alluded to McCain’s reputation as one of Washington’s toughest and wished him well from both himself and First Lady Melania Trump.

“Senator John McCain has always been a fighter. Melania and I send our thoughts and prayers to Senator McCain, Cindy, and their entire family. Get well soon,” the statement said.

McCain had gone for a blood-clot removal surgery when he was diagnosed of brain cancer.

“I can tell you, we hope John McCain gets better very soon. Because we miss him. He is a crusty voice in Washington,” Trump said during a speech at the White House on Monday.

Trump had heavily criticized McCain in the past as “yet another all talk, no action politician who spends too much time on television and not enough time doing his job.”

He had also stated that the senator was not a hero saying, “[McCain] was a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured.”
