#GhanaDecides: 6 Nigerians looking forward to a John Mahama win today

Today, our good neighbours in Ghana carry out their civic duties of electing a new President. Barring any surprises, the winner will either be the National Democratic Party‘s John Mahama, the incumbent President or three-time contender of the New Patriotic Party‘s Nana Akufo Addo.

A lot has already been done to draw parallels between the opposition’s contender, Nana Akufo-Addo and Nigeria’s own President Muhammadu Buhari -from their ‘Change’ to their resilience in seeking office. However, little has been said about the incumbent John Mahama who happens to have a lot of history with Nigerian personalities.

So who are these friends of the Ghanaian Presidency we might be congratulating or sending condolence messages to once the results are called. We already know Baba Onasanjo won’t be losing any sleep over the Ghanaian President’s fate so we shall move right on to those Nigerians with whom President John Mahama shares a bond.

  1. Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu

No hidden business here. The Asiwaju is known for his bond with President John Mahama. He’s already paid him a pre-election visit in November, while APC chieftains were in Nigeria holding reconciliatory meetings in the wake of the Ondo crisis.

In 2012, the Asiwaju relocated altogether to Accra to help John Mahama prepare for the elections after former President Attah Mills died. Talk about friends-in-need.

2. Goodluck Jonathan

The sheer number of pictures of President John Mahama and former President Goodluck Jonathan together points to the fact that there is a friend here. While there may be arguments out there to back up a claim that it was all official, we beg to differ. There’s a buddy-thing going on and who are to mot fully support it. From Achebe’s burial to ‘aso-ebi-ing’ in Akwa Ibom, there’s absolutely no way we are choosing to believe Dr. Ebele is npot rooting for Mahama!

3. Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi Esuwoye II

Because who else but a friend will make you a  Yoruba Chief in a foreign country. The Olofa of Offa conferred on John Mahama the chieftancy titke, Aare Atolase of Offa last October.2998153_41115038_full_jpeg4922c996078ec91ea233800c44448d2c4. Dele Momodu

Forget Davido, this is Chief Dele Momodu’s real “guy”. He came to Presidnt Mahama’s aid earlier this year calling him “a prophet without honour in his own home since some Ghanaians appear not to appreciate his efforts and achiebements”.

According the Ovation boss, what President Mahama needed was to publicise in good work because there was always new elevators and conveyor belts at the Kotoka airport when he travelled.

He admitted to greatly admiring the President and he even dedicated pages to praising John Mahama’s achievements in a recent edition of the Ovation magazine, telling the story of his avhievements.

5. Adeola Fayehun.

The celebrated host of “Keeping It Real with Adeola” got emotional on her show gushed over how much President Mahama has achieved in Ghana and even showcased some of them during the show especially in the area of infrastructure over the last three and half years. Wondering how the president could in a space of three and a half years take Ghana to such higher heights, she went on to say how she wished the Mahama-achievements could be replicated in Nigeria.

6. Nkem Owoh

The popular comic actor often referred to as Osuofia joined the list of John Mahama admirers from Nigeria after he paid the President a short visit in November.

Osuofia, also a big fan of the Kotoka airport is currently in Ghana filming a short documentary about the country. He expressed his happiness at the rate of development being experienced in the country specifically mentioning the newly expanded and modernized arrival wing at the Kotoka International Airpor. He also pointed to other infrastructural developments like the Greater Accra Regional Hospital and the Kwame Nkrumah Circle Interchange which was only recently commissioned.
