‘I’m still Governor’ | Ikpeazu vows to challenge sacking by High Court

Following the judgement of a Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday ordering his sack, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia has asked the people of his state to remain calm as he still remains their governor.

Justice Okon Abang ruled against Ikpeazu and directed that he should vacate his position following an alleged falsification of the tax receipts which the governor presented to qualify for the primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party in 2014.

In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Enyinnaya Appolos, the governor vowed to take the matter to the Court of Appeal and revealed that he had already instructed his lawyers to immediately appeal against the judgement.

According to the statement, “The Governor noted as an appointee of the Abia State Government from 2011 to 2014, when he served as the General Manager, Abia State Passengers Integrated Manifest and Safety Scheme (ASPIMSS), and first Deputy General Manager, Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA) Aba and Environs respectively, before his resignation in October 2014 to contest the Governorship election in the state, that within the period his taxes were deducted at source, and when he had need of his tax clearance in 2014, he applied to the Abia State Board of Internal Revenue, and was duly issued with his tax receipts for the period in question.”

Ikpeazu declared that he was still governor of the state according to law pending the ruling to be delivered by the court of Appeal.
