2 suicide bombers self-detonate around Maiduguri mosque

Two suicide bombers detonated their explosives around a mosque in Maiduguri during midnight Ramadan prayers.

Bukar Shehu, a civilian joint task force member, was quoted as saying that the suicide bombers were intercepted near a mosque premises under tree, before they blew up themselves to death.

Meanwhile, spokesperson of the Borno state police command, Victor Isuku, revealed to The Nation on Monday that the suicide bombers were strapped with improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

“A team of the police explosives ordinance department (EOD) has been deployed to the scene this morning near Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) depot.”

“The people in the mosque took to their heels, while we challenged the explosives strapped suspects of their mission to the mosque, before these explosive exploded near the mosque and under this tree.”

“It was God that saved us here; we would have been killed in the dawn suicide bombings. One of our members was injured by the shrapnel of explosives, including a woman with a leg injury. She has been taken to a nearby clinic for treatment this morning.”
