Here’s your first look at Niyi Akinmolayan’s upcoming animated film ‘Frogeck’

Frogeck

What you probably didn’t know is that The Wedding Party 2 director Niyi Akinmolayan is helming the animated movie Frogeck due out in December 2019. Frogeck is being purported as Nigeria’s first animated feature film and to be released in three major languages – English, French and Swahili. Currently, I have a growing anticipation about the movie which stands out from other works in Akinmolayan’s oeuvre.

Under his production company Anthill Studios, the 13-episode animated series The Adventures of Lola and Chuchu was released in 2017 and the viral short film Plaything. And to raise the move’s buzz, Akinmolayan recently released a teaser for Frogeck. Directed by Nurdin Momodu, we already know the story revolves around a friendly green alien with a powerful gift who lands accidentally in an orphanage home in Ibadan. Subsequently, the alien teams up with the kids to save their orphanage from a ruthless villain.

The teaser shows us the titular Frogeck in a production that is impressive and puts the movie near Hollywood animations. In what looks like a facility, a space shuttle opens and Frogeck emerges from the inside, tentative as he tries to befriend Snuggles. Frogeck is from Planet Lemolas-9, and has a hi-tech watch and a jet pack. The teaser doesn’t reveal the villain or any lurking evil. Even the orphanage is given a snapshot, picturesque aerial views and lots of shrubs. Other characters include Segma, Lola, Habib, Ada, Mr. Priye, and Mrs. Rose, who owns the orphanage. Perhaps a subsequent trailer will put them all in action. Check out the teaser below.
