Homophobia: Morocco blocks ‘gay’ cruise ship from visiting Casablanca

The Nieuw Amsterdam cruise ship was docked in the southern portion of Malaga, the Spanish port, when Moroccan officials forbade it from visiting Casablanca as they had planned.

Why were they banned from Casablanca? Because that voyage was for a group of gay and lesbian clients. The RSVP Vacations travel agency reported that “the authorities have canceled the scheduled visit, despite having previously confirmed it.” They attributed the reason to Morocco’s controversial opinions pertaining homosexuality.

Ironically, despite the fact that the cruise had to re-plan their route, Morocco’s Tourism Minister, Laheen Hadded denied the entire ordeal. He said, “We don’t ban Cruise ships here and we never ask our visitors about their sexual preferences.” He also extended an open invitation to any cruise line to dock in Morocco.

It is difficult to believe in Morocco’s innocence. In Morocco, homosexual relationships are illegal and can be punished with up to three years in jail. Their strict law code also bans pre-marital sex and the purchase of alcohol.

The Moroccans stressed their “historic welcoming tolerance for gay tourists” even though, Islam, the predominant religion, and the country’s own laws punish for the sin of homosexuality!

Does Morocco really think that the world believes their lies? It is apparent that they abhor homosexuality and they blatantly announced that they welcome gays, who represent the epitome of what Moroccans consider a horrible crime.
