The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has announced that head coach of the Super Eagles, Stephen Keshi, will sign a new contract to manage the team before the Africa Cup of Nation (AFCON) qualifier against Sudan.
Musa Amadu, the Secretary-General of the NFF, who revealed this, dismissed insinuations that the delay in the contract renewal was responsible for the poor outing by the Eagles against visiting Red Devils of Congo in Calabar and the 0-0 draw in South Africa.
“I don’t see how the coach’s contract will affect the performance of the team; that the inability of the coach to know his fate was responsible for the result is just speculation.
“I have no doubt that he will sign new contract; I know it’s critically important that the coach signs his contract to secure his future and to know exactly what is due to him.
“I am sure we will be able to sort out things before the next two games against Sudan,” Amadu said.
Also speaking on the forthcoming NFF congress, Amadu denied issuing a statement that the forthcoming elective congress would hold in Warri, Delta State.
He noted that the first NFF Extraordinary Congress would take place on September 20.
“As far as election and the two congresses are concerned, I have made the agenda clear that the executive committee will propose to the congress a roadmap.
“I can confirm to you that the first extraordinary general assembly will take place on Sept. 20 in Warri Delta State.
“On that day, as I said earlier, the NFA board will propose a roadmap, leading up to the election for the congress to endorse.
“For now, the venue, date and roadmap are very tentative until the congress endorses the programme; it is the congress that will ratify them as they deemed fit,” he added.
Nigeria will play Sudan next in Omdurman on October 11, in a quest to qualify for the African Cup of Nations in 2015 hosted by Morocco.
