Hot Stuff: See the Madonna Super Bowl halftime perfomance that has everyone talking

by Wilfred Okiche

From the moment pop diva, Madonna was announced as headliner for the XLVI American Super bowl half-time performance, most folks sensed trouble.

And could you blame them? The queen of pop is not the most subtle of performers and the super bowl has had it’s fair share of wardrobe malfunctions (Thank you, Janet Jackson.)

But in a highly praised performance, the material mom stayed away from scandal and put up an exhilarating show devoid of bawdy moments. Staying true to her reinvention strategy, Madonna played different roles in the 12minute jingo. She was a gladiator, a queen, a choir leader and a sexpot.

She brought on supporting acts Nicki Minaj, LMFAO and Cee-lo Green as she belted out her new single, ‘Give me all your luvin’ as well as some older favourites like ‘Vogue’, ‘Music’ and ‘Like a prayer’.

Of course it wouldn’t be a Madonna show without some form of controversy. The 53-year old pop queen took a tumble some moments into her act and guest star M.I.A (of paper planes fame) was accused of giving the audience the finger. There have also been allegations that Madonna was lip-synching the entire performance.

What do you think? Was it hit or miss?
