‘We are ready to pursue the terrorists’| Borno hunters request to join Army in Sambisa Forest

Hunters in Borno state have requested the Nigerian Army to allow them participate in the war against Boko Haram terrorists in Sambisa Forest.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the hunters lent their support to the army on Sunday, January 3.

The request was made by the Borno Emir of the Hunters, Malam Mai-Gana Mai-Durma in Maiduguri during a chat with journalists.

The Borno Emir of Hunters said they have decided to join the war, owing to the fact that they are conversant with the lay-out of the forest as well as the hideout and base of the insurgents.

“We are appealing to the military authorities to allow us join the fight against Boko Haram at the Sambisa forest.

“We are ready to pursue the terrorists because we know the terrain very well,” Mai-Durma said.

He also further requested that the army incorporate them with the vigilante corp, also known as the Civilian JTF for accelerated results,

“We will overrun Sambisa in partnership with members of the civilian JTF if given the opportunity.

“This will help to complement the effort of military in the anti terrorism operation,” Mai-Durma said.

Also he rued that the hunters in the state had been chased out of employment by the raiding terrorist, thereby rendering them idle.

“Hunters from all the 27 Borno LGAs are all in Maiduguri with our leaders doing nothing at present because of Boko Haram.

“Rather than idling away, we will want to assist the military in crushing Boko Haram terrorists,” Mai-Durma said.

He urged the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Garbai to help the hunters put forward their request to the Military for consideration.
