It’s no longer news that Yoruba movie actress and mum of three, Laide Bakare, is back in the country after being away for a few months for the delivery of her third child.

Contrary to viral reports that she travelled out to escape being arrested with her husband Alhaji Omoboriowo for being involved in fraud, the beautiful light skinned actress in this exclusive interview with YNaija, claimed otherwise.

“I did not run away as widely speculated, I travelled to the US to have my child like I always do…that is where I had all my children.  I travel to have all my children abroad because of the opportunities and access to good medical faclities that one can boast of. I left when the pregnancy was six months and came back together to Nigeria with my baby weeks ago.”

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) reportedly declared Laide’s husband Alhaji Mutairu Atanda Orilowo “WANTED” in 2014 for alleged complicity in a case of criminal conspiracy, obtaining money under false pretence and stealing.

According to Vanguard, the actress’ husband allegedly conspired with a few past executives of MTN’s  Employees Multipurpose Cooperative Society (MEMCOS) to defraud members of the society through his company of N2.5 billion. The EFCC reportedly seized all his property including the boutique he opened for his wife.

Reacting to the report, Laide said in this interview,“Which boutique? Talk is cheap. I have never had a boutique in my life, I don’t even like that business and I am saying it now with all sincerity. Funny enough, If I had a boutique, wouldn’t I have launched it in a big way and made noise about it?  I would do adverts and all but i don’t even have one, it’s not a business I love. I wonder where the rumor came from.  On the crime issue which involved my husband, misunderstandings like that happen everyday and get sorted even in court. That account is even one of the smallest accounts the company has handled. Bigger acccounts that they can boast of have been handled. The media however chose to blow it out of proportion because actress Laide Bakare is involved, because he is married to me. Everything was rolled out of proportion but despite all, we are still happily married. I couldn’t have asked God for a better husband.”

Gushing about her marriage to Alhaji Mutairu Atanda Orilowo, she said “Marriage is not a bed of roses, it is so complicated.  It is even worse for entertainers. When a popular person gets married, people start waiting, insinuating and counting when it would crash. They put it on their head like no man’s business and poke their nose into what doesn’t concern them. It is my marriage yet they treat it like it is their marriage, they believe that entertainers can not be successful in marriage, they go all out to break the marriage, just like the lies they came up with on the EFCC issue and my running away.  I am still happily married, besides our meeting was divine and was ordained by God.

On how she met and fell in love with her husband, she said, “I always thank God for bring us together. We met in Saudi Arabia years back and he tried to woo me but I wasn’t ready for marriage then…then we met later on and he still kept pestering me and since i was matured enough, I decided to accept his proposal and marry him. Today we are blessed with two boys. My husband is just so romantic, he cooks, he changes our baby’s diapers, assists me with work, he even loves to carry our baby on his back, dance round with him and put him to sleep, not to mention the G Wagon he recently got for me. Our marriage is truly made from heaven.

On her controversial and failed marriage to the father of her first child and daughter: “People will always write negative things about me, I know but I’m used to it. However, let me clear the air on this issue once and for all, I don’t have a former husband. I was never married to Okufulire. All that happened between was a relationship which produced a daughter and it didn’t eventually work out well. We were never married at all.

On the new projects she is working on: “Now that God has seen me through the journey of bearing children, I want to face my acting with passion now. I would now be directing lots of my movies and I would focus on my music, Slimline record. Simline Records is borne out of my love for music and the art. My interest is solely to help identify, grow and support talented youths. So far, three artistes have been signed to the label and one of them is T-cole”

On how she would rate Buhari’s two months in office: “Buhari is not slow at all, Nigerians are impatient, we are quick to judgement, our attitude to change is terrible and this is a unique government that we have experienced before, so we should be hopeful. He has so many responsibilities and needs time. He is not slow at all, he has only spent two months. The man is working. He has appointed his chief of staff and going all over the world to have meetings on how to make Nigeria better.”

Her take on lesbianisim and gay activisim: It is ungodly, I don’t know how and why a normal human being would wake up one day and say this is my new lifestyle, but rather than condemn them, i feel sorry for them. I pity them because they need help to get out that filthy lifestyle.

On maintaining her skin color: It is God, I don’t apply anything just my normal moisturizer. I don’t use any special cream, I am very simple.
