I don’t need it | Justice Salami explains rejection of appointment

Former President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Ayo Salami (retd.) has explained why he rejected his appointment as the Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Cases Trial Monitoring Committee set up by the National Judicial Council.

What happened:

  • Justice Salami had written a letter to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen rejecting his appointment.

Why he rejected the appointment:

In an interview with Punch, Salami said;

  • He said the appointment was not in his interest.
  • Salami lamented that the judiciary abandoned him during his trial.

He said, “I rejected the appointment because it is not in my interest. It is because I don’t need it.

“Where was the judiciary when they were harassing me? Where was the court when they were harassing me?”

When pressed that the judiciary needs his help, he said, “To do what in the judiciary?”

He also denied reports that he rejected the appointment because of some members in the committee.

“It is not; I don’t just feel like doing it. it is not because of anybody.”

He also added that he has sent a letter rejecting the appointment.
