A 28-year-old man, who had been parading himself as Corporal Ben Okon, has been arrested by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Lagos State Police Command.

He was caught in riot policeman’s uniform on September 17 at Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos, while alighting from a commercial bus.

Confirming his arrest, the command’s Deputy Police Public Relations Officer (DPPRO), Ozoani Chukwuma, an Assistant Superintendent (ASP) said after the suspect’s arrest, he was transferred to SARS September 27, adding that he would be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.

The suspect said: “I am a staff of Singapore Hotel in Omole Estate, Ojodu Berger area of Lagos. I am from Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. I am a security man at the hotel. I was arrested for wearing mobile police uniform. I picked the NPF and Mopol badge at a liquor joint at Ogba … I was arrested at Iyana Ipaja by a police officer; when he asked me to explain myself, I told him that I’m a security guard. He asked me why I was wearing the Mopol NPF and I told her how I got the whole thing. I did not intend to rob with it. I love to dress like a Mopol.”
