The Governor of Gombe, Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo has lent his support to the #EndSARS campaign.
Background: The #EndSARS campaign began on social media after tales of Operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad intimidating and killing young Nigerians became more than too many.
The call was for the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris to disband the Police unit – SARS – as they were not doing their job but behaving more like criminals.
Highlights from Dankwambo’s Facebook post:
- SARS have now become a threat to the lives of Nigerians that they were established to protect.
- “I wholeheartedly support Nigerians in the call for #EndSARS, because those charged with the protection of Nigerians lives and property have now become the danger to those they are supposed to protect.
- The governor, however, said he believes that the country needs more reforms in the Nigeria Police Force to adequately protect the lives and properties of the populace.
