[The Injustice Blog] Burna boy is in the news again for all the wrong reasons

Burna Boy

Nigerian Afro-fusion artiste Damini Ogulu (otherwise known as Burna Boy) has been a controversial figure for reasons best known to him. While a talented artist, much of his career as a recording artist has been marred by controversy, often courted by Ogulu himself.

If he is not involved in an online spat with a journalist today, he will be battling a DJ tomorrow. It reached another height when he was deported and banned from a popular western country some years ago until the ban was lifted last year. He once handled wrongly his “rift” with his erstwhile manager who happened to be his biological mother. He’s publicly feuded with Ghanaian, Kenyan and South African public personalities, drawing bad blood from fans in their countries.

All these could be partly attributed to money and fame Ogulu was privileged to access in his late teens. Money and fame which have largely insulated him from the consequences of his actions.

The statement made by the lagos state Commissioner of Police Edgal Imohimi while addressing the press at his office on Monday November 20, 2017 about the ignoble role he played in a robbery incident that occurred at the Prestigious Eko Hotel and suites with the victim being a fellow Artiste Abiye David Jumbo popularly known as Mr 2Kay after his Performance at the Buckwyld and Breathless concert on Sunday October 22, 2017 is a sad one which may signaled the Beginning of the end of his Musical career if not well handled by his lawyers.

The Commissioner alleged that Burna Boy through his manager contracted three individuals to rob Mr 2kay inside Eko Hotel so as to “teach him a lesson”.  As instructed, the boys taught Mr 2kay a lesson, he was beaten and all his personal effects running into millions were taken away from him. He was later tied together with his girlfriend. The report added that Burna Boy personally paid the fifty thousand naira balance  to the robbers after carrying out the dastardly act. Ogulu has since released a statement suggesting that he was in no way involved in the events that led to Mr 2kay’s assault and begged the press to avoid misinformation until the police formally charges him with a crime.

The alleged involvement of Burna Boy is not only disheartening, it could also prove ultimately damaging to his career. It will be in the best interests of administration of criminal justice and also a means to serve as a deterrent to others for him to be prosecuted if truly he is culpable.

As expected, the new Lagos CP has been on top of his game since assumption of office and Burna Boy won’t escape justice.
