The Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Doyin Okupe, said Sunday on social media that he has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Okupe had previously taken to Twitter to question the indiscriminate sacking of cabinet members by governors, the most recent being the governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose.

“Politics has really changed. President and Governors can sack cabinents at will because they are not stakeholders but cronies with no political constituencies,” he wrote.

Then two hours later, he said it was “time to say GOODBYE TO PDP.”

Then, in a long post on Facebook, Okupe attributed his decision to the party’s unending crisis, “deception, selfishness and gross nepotism”.

“My resignation is based on periods of long introspection and some of the following reasons:

“1. It is no longer news that the PDP has been embroiled in a fratricidal internal crisis brought upon it by itself.

“Its current direction is difficult to discern and I am convinced that even when the much expected judgement from the Supreme Court is given, the future of the party is not likely to be significantly affected whichever way the judgement goes.

“2. There seems to be too much deception, selfishness and gross nepotism in our polity nationally,” he wrote.
