Sambo Dasuki, Nigeria’s National Security Adviser has advised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to extend the date for the forthcoming general elections.

Dasuki said this on Thursday during a talk at a London think-tank.

According to him, the Commission should consider delaying the elections planned for next month so that it has time to distribute voters’ cards to all those entitled to them.

He said INEC had 30 million cards left to distribute and had only managed to distribute 30 million in the past year.

“What sense does it make to vote three months early when
there are 30 million cards still with INEC? That’s my position,”
Dasuki said.

The INEC schedule for conducting the general elections has been a subject of controversy over the months with the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) accusing the Goodluck Jonathan administration of plotting to shift the elections to satisfy its whims. These allegations have, however, been denied on several occasions by the President’s handlers who accuse the APC of crying wolf where there is none.

  1. As the NSA,I will rather you spend more time thinking about how you can work with the SSS to track Shekau instead of worrying about easy stuff that any body can mediate on.We have Men,Women,Children taken into captivity out of their will and you tell us about Elections.Shame you are still the NSA.

  2. No postponement pls,let them accept faith about election it’s not always about what u want or ur interest.its about the general opinion of Nigerians not those that are in govt.

  3. No postponement mr NSA. Let INEC do its Job. we are in a hurry to vote out JAGA JAGA GEJ
