Justice Danladi Umar orders police to ‘throw out’ Saraki’s lawyer

Raphael Oluyede, one of the lawyers of Senate President Bukola Saraki, was on Thursday, ejected from the Code of Conduct Tribunal, on the order of Danladi Umar, Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

The incident took place during the false assets declaration trial of the Senate President, which is currently in session on the fourth day of hearing.

The drama began when Justice Umar overruled the application by Saraki to have him withdrawn from the trial.

The judge said of the application: “This motion filed by a mere busybody legal practitioner is not accepted by this tribunal. Members of the inner bar, you are to guide him. How can you allow such a rubbish thing from him? This motion is of no consequence. As far as this tribunal is concerned is thrown away.”

In response, the ‘busybody legal practitioner’ – Oluyede implored on the tribunal to allow him speak on the application.

Justice Umar however, overruled his request while ordering him to take his seat but Oluyede was reluctant to obey his order.

This, TheCable reports, resulted in a verbal altercation between the tribunal judge and the lawyer.

Evidently livid by the action of the lawyer, Justice Umar instructed police officers at the tribunal to throw him out.

As five policemen went towards him to carry out the directive of the judge, Rotimi ‎Jacobs (SAN) then urged the tribunal chairman to be patient.

“My lord be patient, we will handle the application as we effectively did at the Federal High Court. We will expose the frivolity of the application even to the person who filed it.
