Anywhere you are in the world, if you are a black individual, you are no doubt bewildered, infuriated or depressed by the headlines on the news of late. It’s been nothing but social injustice, with black people getting the short end of the stick. While racial oppression is no new occurrence, the publicity surrounding it lately is reminding people of a fundamental problem we have been slow to tackle.
For the past two months on social media, clarity has been the theme. From the racially motivated murder of Ahmaud Aubrey by two white men to the police brutality that led to the death of George Floyd, and here in Nigeria, the rape and murder of a young Uwa who went to a church to read, amongst many other gory incidents, have all provided clarity as to who or what the enemy is.
The evil of supremacist ideas is being exposed at a rapid rate and people are responding accordingly. From protests to riots, to vandalism, civil unrest all over the world is forcing leaders to react, and reforms to be put in place. Despite these actions, today, the black community felt another devastating sting. A young lady has been found dead, and while details surrounding her death are yet to be concluded, people on social media believe they have a clue.

Toyin did not only advocate for black lives, she also advocated for the lives of LGBTQ, as the injustice being met to the black community also spilled into the LGBTQ community. People on Twitter, Nigerians and Americans alike, are demanding justice for the young activist as they mourn her death.
