Lagos Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has declared that the Eti-Osa Isolation Centre and the Agidingbi Isolation Centre would be closed down.

The announcement was made on Saturday at Lagos House, Marina, during the 17th update on the management of coronavirus in the state. According to the Governor, the Eti-Osa Isolation Centre was closed down on Friday night, while patients in the Agidingbi Isolation Centre would be relocated to the large capacity centre; Indo-Centre in the Anthony area, which would be soon be inaugurated.

“We have got to a stage where we need to balance the economics of this and which of these facilities do we need to keep running. Some of them now are having less than 20 per cent of occupancy. This is why we reach a conclusion to shut Eti-Osa facility and another one in Lekki,” the governor said..

“We’re not ceding sovereignty to China”— FG

Transportation Minister, Rotimi Amaechi, has refuted reports that Nigeria would be ceding its sovereignty to China, in the event it defaults on loans obtained from the Asian country, adding that the Nigerian government can pay back the loans collected for the construction of rail projects within the stipulated period of 20 years.

In a statement on Saturday, Amaechi explained that the Sovereign Guarantee clause in the loan agreement (which raised eyebrows) was to assure China that it can take over the asset constructed with the loan if Nigeria were to default. He also noted that China was the only country giving out loans with a low-interest rate of 2.8 per cent.

This statement follows the nationwide alarm that greeted a report from the House of Representatives’ Committee on Treaties, Protocols, and Agreements hearing on the $500 million loans from China’s Export-Import Bank which Nigeria is seeking for railway construction and other projects.

Pastor Bakare cautions against re-opening of churches in Lagos

Serving Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church (CGCC), Pastor Tunde Bakare, has cautioned against the reopening of churches.

Bakare stated this during his online Sunday Sermon, barely 24 hours after Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu declared that worship centres in the state will be opened from Friday, August 7 and Sunday, August 9, 2020 for Muslims and Christians respectively.

“I have to appeal to you once again, please keep safe and do your best to stay alive. Do not let anyone, whether religious leader or governmental leader, to drive you like a sheep to the slaughter. If they (the government and the disease control authorities) said that the month of August is going to be the peak of the infection, why should they ask people to rush in (re-open the churches) again?”  the cleric said.

Adekunle Gold releases tracklist for his album, “Afropop Vol. 1”

Nigerian singer and songwriter, Adekunle Gold, on Friday released the tracklist for his third album, ‘Afro-pop Vol. 1.’

With caption, “Finally, My 3rd Studio Album “Afro Pop Vol. 1” is out on the 21st of August,”  the songwriter made the announcement on his Twitter handle.

The album tracklist follows a lot of anticipation after Adekunle Gold had earlier released his stunning single “AG Baby.”
