The war of words between the incumbent and past presidents of Nigeria has shown no sign of abating.

In response to the accusations by past president Goodluck Jonathan that the present government is “full of lies and propaganda,” President Muhammadu Buhari has said “disinformation and fake news,” which he described as “evil twins,” have become weapons in the hands of “naysayers.”

Addressing issues in his own government, President Buhari has ordered the immediate sack of wanted former chairman of the defunct Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, Abdulrasheed Maina.

In a nutshell, Maina was dismissed from the civil service in 2013 after being accused of N100 billion pension fraud. However, one thing led to another and Maina was reportedly reinstated and even promoted by President Buhari.

A presidential spokesperson initially defended the president, saying Maina had not ” been found guilty of any offence.”

So far, Maina has been reported absent from his office after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) launched a fresh manhunt for him.

Well, the Ministry of Interior Affair has wiped its hands clean, denying any complicity in the recall and promotion of wanted former Chairman of Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT).

Meanwhile, another tragedy rocks Maiduguri as suicide bombers killed 16 people and injured 18 others on Sunday in three separate explosions.

The attacks by Boko Haram insurgents happened at the Muna garage area and Muna Dalti.

A bit of good news, former education minister and also former Vice-President of the World Bank’s Africa division, Mrs Obiageli Ezekwesili, has been appointed as one of the Democracy Ambassadors of the International Institute for Electoral Assistance (International IDEA).

This is ahead of its Global State of Democracy publication to be launched in November 2017 in Stockholm.
