President Muhammadu Buhari administration has reportedly reinstated wanted former chairman of the Presidential Task Team on Pension Reforms, Abdulrasheed Maina, into the civil service, Premium Times reports.

According to the online news medium, Maina who is still on the EFCC’s wanted list was recalled and promoted to the position of director in charge of Human Resources in the Ministry of Interior.

Background:

  • Maina was dismissed in 2013 by the Federal Civil Service Commission following a recommendation by the Office of the Head of Service.
  • He was accused of massive pension fraud scheme amounting to more than N100 billion.
  • Maina sued the Senate, after the upper chamber issued an arrest warrant against him.
  • Maina was dismissed by the Head of Service for allegedly absconding from duty and attempting to evade arrest and charged to court.

What is happening:

A source said Maina’s reinstatement was shrouded in secrecy.

Maina’s campaign posters had surfaced on the social media this year, touting him as a gubernatorial aspirant for Borno state.

A top EFCC official told Premium Times that Maina is still wanted for his crimes.

“We are still looking for him. He is a wanted man. He ought to be arraigned with Oronsaye and the rest but he disappeared,” the official said.
