[The Legislative Blog]: Senator Shehu Sani attacked by “police-led thugs” during press briefing in Kaduna

Senator Shehu Sani, representing Kaduna Central in the upper chamber, has been attacked alongside another Kaduna Senator, Suleiman Hunkuyi.

The two senators and other politicians including three Reps members were said to have fled for their lives after a mob launched an attack on them while they held a press briefing in Kaduna.

In a press statement released about an hour ago, Senator Sani wrote that, “we held a press conference against attempt by the Governor of Kaduna state and his minions to hijack and destroy the party in the state. The Governor wanted to write names of his boys and send to Abuja as “delegates” for the Party convention. Our position is that delegates must be elected and not selected in line with the party’s guidelines for congresses.”

Senator Sani in his reaction to the attack has pointed fingers at a number of individuals including the police chief in the area. He wrote on Facebook, “The invasion of the Kaduna NUJ secretariat by sponsored armed thugs during our press conference was an attempt to kill us in order to silence us.The attack was aided by a police DPO.”

In a chat with Premium Times, the Senator who has been in a prolonged battle with the Kaduna governor, Nasir El-Rufai and has faced suspension from the state chapter of his party, APC alleged that the state government was behind the attack.

One journalist was left injured in the attack.
