Senator Shehu Sani is one of a kind. Highly opinionated, fearless and always social media-ready to tackle detractors.
On Thursday, the Senate rejected the nomination of Ibrahim Magu as Chairman of the EFCC. The lawmakers disclosed that this action was taken based on a security report that was presented to them by the State Security Service (SSS).
Although the senate has said that Magu may be considered if President Buhari provides a viable explanation for them to do so, Senator Shehu Sani has maintained his stance on the Magu matter.
It’s straightforward, it’s clear! He respects the decisions of the Senate he belongs to but in his personal opinion, there’s nothing wrong with having Ibrahim Magu as EFCC boss.
“Magu, my attention has been drawn to a fabricated, concocted, mischievously assembled statement credited to me by those opposed to Mr Magu, trying to use my name to strengthen their position. My personal opinion on this is simple: Magu is doing a good job as the Boss of the EFCC. All that is needed is the rule of law and fundamental human rights elements which need to be strongly observed by the commission, rule of law remains the most potent weapon in the fight against corruption.I remained respectfully bound by the majority position of the Senate on the issue, but wish to categorically and unambiguously state that I’m personally impressed with his performance“.
Many have condemned Senator Shehu Sani, calling him a hypocrite but one has to respect a man who is never afraid to express his personal opinions in Nigeria’s political clime. There aren’t many of them.
