Let’s see your tonsils: Man survives bear attack by grabbing the animal’s tongue

Canadian resident Gilles Cyr was able to fight off a bear that attacked him by grabbing the beast’s tongue.

A brave Canadian man fended off a bear attack by grabbing the beast by its tongue.

Gilles Cyr refused to let his gigantic attacker have the last word after it came charging out of the woods onto his land in Grand Falls, New Brunswick, last week.

“When I opened up my eyes it was on top of me — with the friggin’ noise, it’s crazy the way it growls,” he told CBC.

Cyr thrust his hand deep inside the black bear’s mouth, grabbed and held on for dear life as the brute tried to chow down.

Cyr said the bear (not pictured) leapt at him from the woods.

“His mouth was wide open right in front of my face so the last thing I remember I had his tongue in my hand and I didn’t want to let go because he was trying to fight me off,” he said.

“So he was hitting me with his claws, so I say, ‘If you’re going to hurt me, I’m going to hurt you too.’ So he was biting his tongue at the same time,” he added.

Midway through the scuffle, Cyr managed to flee and hid behind a tree.

The bear eventually lost interest and skulked away, leaving his victim with just scratches on his stomach and a bite mark on his knee.

Cyr, however, managed to have the last laugh, as he got permission to track down the bear and kill it.
