Loan your money to FG | NUPENG tells those interested in buying national assets

The National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) on Friday warned that the nation’s national assets are not for sale.

The Chairman, NUPENG, Port Harcourt, Rivers State Zone, Chief Charles Eleto while speaking said those who have conceived the idea of buying them should stay away.

He said the union will never support the Federal Government’s decision to sell national assets.

He said, “Those that intend to buy the assets should forget the idea. They (billionaires) should not lay their hands on Nigeria’s property, all of them are yielding us profit, they are not moribund; so, why should the Federal Government think of selling them?

“NUPENG is not going back on this position and we will follow up with an action (strike) if the Federal Government attempts to sell these assets. We don’t have any other country than Nigeria.

“The assets have been there for a purpose. The excuse that the proceeds from the sale of the national assets would be used to fund the 2016 national budget is unacceptable.”

He urged those interested in Nigeria in buying the assets to lend the Federal Government the money instead, and get paid once the economy improves.

“In the alternative, Nigerians who feel they have enough money to buy our national assets should be patriotic enough to loan the Federal Government funds to move the country out of recession as this will be refunded later. This is a better option than for a few individuals laying their hands on our national assets,” Eleto said.
