2019 is around the corner and every close watcher of Political events in Nigeria knows that a year to election, governance stops. Indirectly this means every Nigerian expecting something good from the Buhari Presidency has to get it on or before December 31,2017. Anything after, the waiting game stops except for some politically motivated decisions that always comes with elections.
However as we also know that elections in this part of the world is shaped by issues as found in other nations of the world it will be a time for reckoning and assessment. Apparently many issues will shape 2019 elections but none will be more damaging for the Buhari Presidency Other than the issue of the “dismissed” former Chairman of the Presidential committee on Pension task force Alhaji Abdulrasheed Maina.
Maina’s issue has been previously addressed on this blog but the Presidency has failed to act decisively on these issues. What are the issues as it pertains to the #Mainagate as we all know it.
It’s an open secret that the government of President Jonathan removed Maina after being alleged of abuse of office by his superiors and other investigating bodies, Maina went into hiding and never came into our consciousness. Maina came back to our consciousness in the year 2017 this time around not through the government but through an investigation carried out by a media house on his secret reinstatement into the federal civil service. The issue is this who reinstated Maina?
There are several narratives to this issue. Maina alleged he was reinstated by the government, the government denied, Maina’s family buttressed this point that he was reinstated by the government. An investigation by Punch Newspapers gave credence to this as it relates to the letter written to the President by the head of service on the implications of reinstating the man.
The government also denied this. The President went ahead to dismiss Maina from the civil service but Maina is that proverbial cat with nine lives. He is back again as he alleged the President sent AGF Abubakar Malami SAN to him in the United Arab Emirates which yield a recovery of 1.3 Trillion for the government.
The summary of all these narrative is this, the President should man up and settle this Maina issue once and for all. If not the President may not survive the adverse effect of Maina been in hiding and throwing daggers at the Presidency as he has done in his latest interview with channelsTV.
While not holding brief for Maina, it is evident this man and the Buhari Presidency has an unfinished business and its politically advisable for President Buhari to finish this business once and for all.It is vital if his presidential ambitions will yield fruit a second time.
