The iconic duo of Peter and Paul Okoye who have dazzled fans across the country, around the African continent and various other parts of the world, seem to be going separate ways, again.
A letter supposedly written by Peter to Festus Keyamo (SAN) has made the rounds on social media today. Contained in the letter are allegations of death threats made on Peter, who will now go by the name of Mr P (alias Koolest Dude), by his brothers Paul and Jude. Mr P, who has embarked on a private tour in the US, alleges that Paul cancelled the initial PSquare tours of the US and Canada and it appears both Paul and Jude do not appreciate the efforts he has made to make the group work again.
Of course, we have been here before. It is the second public spat between the duo (trio by extension to Jude). After going their separate ways a little over two years ago, each came out with a single, but re-emerged together as a single act in 2016, with a number of singles, particularly ‘Bank Alert’, which featured John Okafor and Onyeka Onwenu in the video, with many other artistes present. The video of that song was supposed to express a sort of mega re-union of the brothers, but it appears the underlying tensions have remained with them.
Speculations abound as to what the exact problem has been between the boys. While one group of “insiders” say it is about Jude Okoye, the elder brother to the twin performers, and his way of handling their business, other fingers point to the choice of marital partners by both or one of the duo. Either way, it seems serious enough for the brothers to have separated two years ago, made up temporarily and still have come to the point of going their separate ways again. If Peter will be taken by his words, the making of death threats in the presence of other persons shows a deep-lying problem that should require more careful introspection and investigation. Silently, one’s thoughts cannot but go to their mother who passed away in 2014 amidst the tensions between both boys (and their spousal choices).
