The wife and brother of Nazeef Yunus, a lecturer at the Kogi State University who was paraded Wednesday as a Boko Haram member, said the Islamic scholar must have been set up.

The wife, Sa’adatu Sani said  people know him as a peaceful person and that he has always preached against the ideology of the Boko Haram sect.

“Even when the security operatives stormed our community on the 29 of October 2013, they ransacked the entire house, checked every single part of the house including going into the ceiling and our foodstuff, they collected all our phones but they didn’t find anything. They asked for the car keys, we gave it to them and they checked everywhere yet they did not find anything so why are they today saying he is a member of the sect 22 days later?

“For all these days they took him, we had no contact with him and we didn’t know his whereabouts until yesterday (Wednesday). But we know that Allah is with the trustworthy and that Malam is innocent.”

Also speaking on behalf of the family, his younger brother, Mallam Mohammed Auwal Yunus, said his brother‘s stand on Boko Haram is known to many people around him including his students.
