The new board of United Arab Emirates club, Al Wasl, has sacked Argentine legend, Diego Maradona, as manager. Maradona’s position has been under threat, after the club’s entire board resigned because the ambitious Dubai club ended the campaign trophyless.

“Following a meeting held by the board of directors of Al Wasl Football Company held today [Tuesday], to evaluate the technical staff of Al Wasl Football Team under the leadership of coach Diego Maradona, it was decided to terminate the services of coach Diego Maradona and his technical staff,” a statement from the club said.

The 51-year-old, who was employed last May to boost the club’s profile both on and off the pitch, had a year left on his contract and a club spokesman confirmed that “there are of course exit clauses for both parties concerned.”
